There is an undeniable power in a good story. It is like a magnet that attracts the audience, mesmerizing it at the same time.
Are you ready to take your scenes beyond the amusement factor and discover the power of a compelling story? If the answer is yes, than this bubble is for you. We will move away from the easy jokes and frantic energy to focus more on the structural steps that make a long-form truly unforgettable. Taking storytelling techniques like theme, point of view, style etc, and applying them in improvisation will help deconstruct narratives and reconstruct them in original ways. We will explore a variety of long-form formats( ex. La Ronde, A Day in a Life, The Typewriter etc) and study how different storylines can be comprehended.
Thus, whether you're looking to master a specific format or sharpen your narration abilities, this class provides the perfect toolkit to build cohesive, satisfying stories that will charm both the players and the public.
What you’ll learn
How to identify the exact moment a story truly begins.
How to create coherent, meaningful storylines.
How to track a character desires and stakes so every beat of the narrative feels like it leads naturally to the next.
How to introduce and reintroduce elements to provide thematic call backs rather than easy laughs.
How to balance comedic moments with grounded, emotional ones.
Active listening, hearing the narrative offers your partners are making.
Who this is for
This is one of our Bubbles. These courses are intended for improvisers who already have an understanding of the basics, perhaps (but not necessarily) through our own Starting Steps courses. If you’re wondering which course is right for you, then feel free to email us.
This particular course is suitable for both intermediate and advanced improvisers. One can never work TOO much on emotional connection after all :)
