Step into the spotlight and bring cinematic magic to your improv scenes! In this 4-evening intensive, we’ll explore iconic film genres that have inspired generations, and are ripe with tools to enrich your longform and shortform play. Each session Vincent will dissect a genre’s key tropes, emotional tone, character types, and narrative structures. Then we’ll take those juicy discoveries to the stage with scenes, montages, and genre scenes. While shortform players will still benefit, this workshop series is designed primarily for those looking to deepen their acting craft, explore committed scenework, and bring cinematic storytelling into longform formats. We'll work on playing with truth inside style, not just parody, but sincere, genre-rooted performance. Here is what Vincent has planned for you:
Class 1: “The twisted world of Film Noir”
Class 2: “The darkness of Horror vs. Thriller”
Class 3: “Conquering Adventure & Fantasy”
Class 4: “Feeling the Romance genre”
Whether you're a noir detective, a fantasy hero, or a swooning lover at heart, this series will give you tools to bring genre play to life with specificity and emotional truth.
What you’ll learn
Feel confident identifying and playing within a variety of genres
Expand your emotional and stylistic range in scenes
Develop richer characters, narrative tools, and scenic tone
Use genre to inspire and elevate longform storytelling

This particular course is suitable for both intermediate and advanced improvisers.
About the teacher
Vincent Van Nieuwenhuyze
Hailing from the charming city of Ghent, Vincent is a seasoned improv player, teacher, and coach with over 15 years of experience bringing scenes to life.
By day, he is a project and process facilitator, tackling the corporate world with the same creative flair he brings to the stage. But when the clock strikes geek o’clock, this neurospicy dynamo dives into his other true passions: gaming (mostly MMORPGs), rolling the dice in Dungeons & Dragons, and embracing full-on otaku status with an ever-growing anime watchlist.
On stage, he is all about creating magic through intimacy, warmth, and boundless energy, making every scene feel fresh and fun. Offstage, he’s just as passionate about helping others unlock their creativity, keeping the fun in fundamentals, and exploring themes of gender and queerness in performance.
Whether he’s teaching, rocking an improv stage, leading a dungeon crawl, or leveling up his character online, Vincent’s motto is simple: “You be you!”
